Dental Implants
Dental implants are a great solution that replaces the root of a missing tooth and can support dental crowns, bridges, or dentures. It can improve your ability to chew, restore your aesthetics, and smile. With proper care, it can last a lifetime. The procedure is split up into multiple steps over a few months to allow the bone and tissue to heal.
One of the top benefits of dental implants can used for full arch prostheses for full mouth or full arch rehabilitation. This technique involves placing a fixed bridge supported by four to six dental implants. These implants are made from materials such as acrylic fused to titanium, monolithic zirconia, or porcelain layered on a cobalt-chromium frame. After the implants are surgically placed, a prosthesis is attached to them. This treatment is ideal for patients who are about to lose most of their teeth or have teeth that are difficult to restore. These restorations are more durable and long-lasting than other tooth replacement options, often lasting 20 years or more with proper care.
The implants integrate with the jawbone, providing a strong foundation for the new teeth. Depending on the patient’s jaw and bone structure, the implants can support 10 to 14 teeth. Unlike traditional removable dentures, these fixed prostheses stay securely in place and are less likely to cause discomfort or gum damage. Wearing traditional dentures over time can weaken the jawbone, leading to a sunken appearance.
However, not everyone is a candidate for four to six implants, as it depends on bone quality and anatomy. Even a prosthesis supported by just two implants offers more stability than traditional removable dentures.
